Friday Stuff.

Hi lovelies, how has your week been? It’s been a fairly unproductive week for Red Boots, but I’ve had some much needed personal down time and I’m starting to feel a whole lot better.

Our new business cards arrived this week and they look great. I’ve decided to also use them as backing cards for our pins. The photos aren’t great – why can’t I work out how to use this new camera!?? – but you get the idea.

We had a visitor to our backyard this week. This guy is a Pacific Baza or crested hawk. Isn’t he (or maybe he’s a she?) beautiful. Kelly snapped the photos. These guys used to visit a lot but they’ve been a bit scarce lately.

Amazon dot com has a few copies of Happy Quilts back in stock if you are chasing a copy. There are supposed to be more on the way but they have been slow showing up. I’m not sure how close we are to the end of the print run.

This months giveaway will include a reusable cup from the lovelies at KeepCup plus a pack of HeatnBond Lite and a pack of HeatnBond Fusible Interfacing from the fabulous folk at Thermoweb. You can find the details on how to enter on our giveaway page (in the menu). We have a cupboard full of KeepCups, most coffee shops accept them, and it takes all those one-use plastic cups out of the environment (no sponsorship, I pay for most of these prizes myself).

That’s about it from me tonight. I’m hoping to get some sewing done this weekend, in between dividing and re-potting the Zygocactus and close on 50 succulents that is! Have a fabulous weekend y’all, toni xx

And the winner is… drum roll please…

WILD THINGS QUILT GIVEAWAY

web-wild-things

Good morning everyone!

I printed out all of the entries and had my visitors read them over breakfast. They unanimously picked the winner. A huge, wild things congratulations goes to BRENDA whose favourite memory had them spitting their coffee over the entries!

My favourite Christmas memory is… I vividly recall my sister and I getting up in the middle of the night, after our parents fell asleep, to peek at our Christmas presents under the tree by unwrapping small portions. Much to our dismay, we were unable to get a sneak peek because this particular Christmas our parents had our gifts wrapped and “canned” and a can opener was required to open the gift. These were large cans!! We ran to back to bed, and kept quiet about our plot.
Later, as adults, we confessed and learned that our parents knew all along as they noticed the tears in the wrapping paper and the gobs of tape to repair the tears–from the previous Christmas. Our parents told us they most certainly were aware of our mischief and vowed to teach us patience for the following year–and they most certainly did!! That was the year of the “canned gifts.” We still get a chuckle out of this one.

Thank you to everyone who entered. We thoroughly enjoyed reading your favourite memories, the funny ones, the sad, the sweet, and the (OMG) bad.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

A Wild Giveaway…

Hi y’all, how was your weekend? I spent mine working off a case of the Christmas-time blues. We jumped in the car first thing Saturday morning, drove to the South side of the city and picked up our Christmas ham, went plant shopping, and bought some Korean Soju (Sake). Oh, and I found some chocolate coated coffee beans that are so divinely delicious I can’t stop eating them!

Then I re-potted our cactus, divided the succulents, dug up and transplanted an heirloom rose, and generally got hot and sweaty. I think it did the trick, I’m feeling a lot better tonight.

I had hoped to get the ‘My Family’ pattern finished on Friday, but I didn’t (obviously LOL). At this stage I’m thinking tomorrow night or sometime Tuesday. This pattern will absorb the ‘Best Friends’ pattern and have the added instructions for a dad, little brother, little sister, and baby dolls. They are quick, easy to make, and loads of fun. I’m thinking of adding some moustache shapes to the pattern for Dad LOL.

Did I tell you I recently received my first royalty cheque for the book? Almost three years after I first started writing it, I got a cheque for $97. $97 for a full year’s work ROFLOL. The funniest bit is that the cheque bounced!! It took too long getting to me via snail mail, so it was cancelled. No, actually the funniest bit (or most depressing depending on how you look at it) was that the bank took a $25 fee for processing it, so I’m actually -$25 out of pocket ROFLOL.

I hope you all have a fantastic week-to-come. I hope that all of you who live in SoCal are safe from the fires. We’re all thinking of you. Stay safe, toni xx

Taking Stock. June.

Howdy folks, it’s the end of the Australian financial year and it’s time to take stock. I set myself the 30th June deadline to decide whether to keep Red Boots running or not.

After several weeks of angst I’ve decide to keep the business open for another year – health and finances permitting. When I’m tired I’ll take a rest, when I’m stressed I’ll step away for a while.

My main issue is exposure. I need you my lovely, lovely followers to share as much as you can. I know a lot of you already do that for me and I’m extremely grateful for your help. As an independent designer I don’t get the exposure so many of the bigger, affiliated guys do and I can’t afford the $1,000’s it takes to attend the craft fairs.

If you know about any market places or groups I can join and share my quilts please send me links to their sites. I’ve been invited to join several market places over the past year but some of them take up to 70% of your sale amounts and it’s not worth the work you put into it.

So what’s in store for Red Boots? A new website (hopefully) so I’m not so reliant on Etsy, a huge giveaway, a Red Boot Quilts group so you can share your quilts and ask advice, and lots more happy quilts.

Later this year I will be giving away the Wild Things (monster) quilt from the Happy Quilts book! Stay tuned for details.

clothesline-1

This week I’ve been working on an updated version of the Santa’s House quilt. I retired this quilt at the beginning of the year but I’ve had so many emails requesting its return, I thought I would give it a refresh and redesign. Santa’s House 2 will be available soon (if Remy-the-Lion gets his butt off it).

Xmas Santas House

On a personal front I’m still growing out my hair, my horrible neighbours are still my horrible neighbours, and property developers are still pestering us, and offering us too little, for the house (Australian property prices are some of the highest in the world). A lotto win is starting to look like the only way we will ever move out of here LOL.

I’m going to stop reading politics, avoid the news, get out in the sunshine and forget the thoroughly depressing woes of the world.

Here’s to another 12 months! xx
