Space Quest has been uploaded to the Etsy store for the special introductory price of $5 for the PDF pattern and $11.50 for the printed pattern. This is a great quilt for the little astronauts in your life. Use the Shop button at the top of the page to be taken to our Etsy store.
We still don’t have an internet connection so please bear with us.
OMG I finished the space quilt. I’m so relieved LOL. It’s all packaged up and ready to go to the lovely Fiona’s for quilting. Yippee!
I spent weeks fussing over the borders only to decide that simple was best. Three weeks of fussing and only half an hour of sewing and it’s done! Go figure!
Hey, have you ever noticed when you’re blanket stitching some black & white fabrics that white or black thread looks out of place? Try stitching with grey thread, it blends in and doesn’t fight with the pattern.
Happy Thursday everyone! toni xx
Hello lovelies, can you believe it’s the end of January already? I had so much planned for this month and then the January blahs took over.
I’ve been (slowly) working on a space quilt, a pug quilt, a giraffe quilt, an update to the Honeybee Bears quilt, and a new ABC quilt. I’m hoping that I have all five finished before the end of February.
As you might remember, last year we closed our Birthday Club due to internet (ro)bots. This year we have decided to give our monthly giveaways another chance and do them differently. There are two ways you can enter the prize draw.
Firstly you can become a member of The Red Boots Gang which is our Facebook Group. This is a closed group where you can chat, ask questions, and generally have a bit of fun.
Please pop on over, join up, and say hi!
As a member you will be automatically entered in our monthly giveaways. I’ll draw a winner from the member’s list on the last day of every month and notify them via messaging.
The second way to win is to subscribe to our newsletter. We are planning on sending (2) newsletters a month in 2018 so your inbox won’t be spammed. I’ll draw a winner from the subscriber’s list on the last day of every month and notify them via email.
This month’s prize pack consists of (1) 1.25 yard pack of HeatnBond Lite plus (1) pack of Pressing Sheets. One pack will be given away to each group. Good Luck!
I know that some of you must be wondering why I’ve haven’t included our standard Facebook page, blog, and Instagram accounts in the giveaway draws. The answer is very simple, it’s extremely time consuming and confusing to run the giveaways across so many platforms and I can’t afford a prize (or the postage) for each platform. By consolidating the entry points to two platforms so much of my time is freed for sewing and you receive a better quality prize pack.
Why do I have so many social media accounts? Well it’s not by choice LOL, it’s a requirement of working in this business. Did you know that I have to report my social media numbers to the businesses/publishers I work with. It’s a vital and compulsory part of my work. It does however mean I can’t please everybody despite wanting to, I hope you all understand.
I hope your January hasn’t been too hot, too cold, or too full of the blahs. toni xx
Hi y’all, how has your week been? I’m starting to get back into the swing of things. I’ve woken up this week to the sound of the local school bell ringing and that always signals a return to routine.
Hey I don’t have to do the 8am school run or make school lunches anymore! What a thoroughly blissful thought. Did I tell you that Kelly was accepted into her University course?
Rem has been particularly stubborn this week and every time I’ve tried to get some work done he has planted his furry little bottom on the fabric and ironing board.
When I eventually shooed him off I got some work done on the space quilt. I promised this one two years ago and it got caught up in the to-do bin. Another few days and it will be done and I’ll be able to start on the giraffe quilt and pug quilt.
Cheat of the Week: I’ve been making 4in Sawtooth Star blocks for the quilt and I messed up one of the seams on this one. You can see that it’s about an 1/8th of an inch out of whack.
I didn’t want to unpick the seams – with the small pieces the fray factor was too high and the rest of the block was fine – so I cut a strip of lightweight fusible interfacing, aligned it with the edge of the block, then fused it in place. It will stop the fabric from fraying and I’ll be able to sew the block into the quilt without any further problems.
Use white interfacing for light fabrics and grey interfacing for dark fabrics. Use a short stitch length when sewing over the offending seam for strength. When you quilt the flimsy, the quilting will further strengthen the seam. I wouldn’t recommend using this cheat on a seam that is less than 1/8in wide.
Did you know that I have a Facebook group called “The Red Boots Gang” ? Pop on over and say ‘hi’ to everyone there. In 2018 I’ll be doing monthly giveaways and you will have early access to new patterns, products, and sales.
Have a lovely weekend everyone, I have five more Sawtooth Star blocks to make before I can go to bed tonight :o>
Hi y’all, how’s the weather at your place? It’s hot and humid here, unpleasantly so. Did you know that Sydney was the hottest place in the world last week? We haven’t quite reached those temperatures (and I truly hope we don’t this Summer) but it’s hot enough to be uncomfortable. It’s heading towards midnight and we’re still soaked with sweat. Yuck.
I’ve been playing around with 4in Sawtooth Star blocks today. I think they are going to look good in this quilt. You really can’t tell if a component will work in a design until it’s are made. They look good in my sketch, but frequently when you transfer a design from paper to the real thing everything falls apart.
I hope you’re all having a fantastic weekend, it’s time for a cool shower and some sleep for me. Tomorrow is going to be a doozy apparently, even hotter than today. xx
Hi guys, another week has flown by and I’m still trying to get motivated. I’m working, but it’s coming in fits and starts. Everything is fine and I’ll be back on track soon; all of those 2am finishes in December took their toll and I’m not quite back on top of things yet.
I have giraffes, rockets, and pugs on my work table this week. I need a shopping trip to Peppermint Stitches to buy some more background fabric, I’m down to scraps in my stash.
My sweet boy turned 21 today. Twenty-one! I’m not sure where the time has gone.
You know how they say never work with kids and animals? Kate found this on her phone. Rem is the devil when it comes to quilts. If I put a quilt on the floor, he does this (even without the laser). Have a lovely weekend everyone, toni xx
