Hello Friday.

Gosh what a week it’s been. It is Friday isn’t it? I’ve been caught out once already this week, thinking Thursday was Wednesday LOL.

First up I wanted to say thank you again for your empathy and kindness. I was blown away by your emails of support. I haven’t caught up with everybody yet, but I’m working my way through all the messages. I love you guys.heart coffee this

This weekend I’m going to start sorting my fabrics into project piles. I’m hoping this will clear some of the chaos in my head and allow me to move forward and put some of my designs to fabric. Small steps.fabric

I’m also going to use the old artists trick of drawing 100 drawings to kickstart my creativity, except I want to make 100 blocks. I think they’ll be mostly applique blocks but we’ll see. No time frame and no pressure. I’ll see where I end up. I’ll probably upload the templates to the website for you to use too, I haven’t quite worked out the logistics yet. The need to earn money vs. my generous streak LOL. Curse not winning the lottery this week!pugs 1

Anyway my neurotic cat needs me to take him to the toilet. Actually it’s unfair calling him neurotic, both of them are just as stressed as we are. Spud has decided he won’t go to the loo unless I go with him (and sit down beside him). Don’t ask and stop laughing LOL. It’s better than ‘accidents’.spud 1Love to all, toni xx

Friday night has gone to the dogs.

Hey guys, I’ve put the Kennel Club, A Pug’s Life, Canine Capers, and Hound Dogs on special this weekend. The usual price $4 for the PDF and $11.50 for the printed patterns.

I’ve also put the Reindeer Games quilt on special.Web-Reindeer-Games-1200Tutti Fruity pandas are on my work table, amongst other things this week. I found them wallowing in my scrap bin and thought I’d do some work on them. I’m jumping from project to project at the moment, I can’t quite settle to one quilt LOL.

Enjoy your weekend lovely people, toni xx

Dog vs. Dog

Hey guys, I’ve had an awful lot of requests for templates for different dogs breeds. How would it be if I made a template pack to go with the Pug’s Life / Kennel Club quilt patterns? You could insert your preferred dog breed without me having to make a new quilt each time. xx

Hi y’all,

How’s things in your neck of the woods? We’re crazy busy here. This semester’s Uni schedule is brutal and we have been on the run seven days a week, dawn til late. It all culminates in Kate, our eldest daughter, heading off to France for a university study tour… and then we can all get some down-time during the mid-year break :o>

For me it means scheduling my work around three different Uni timetables – and five work timetables if you count me and my partner. I know, Mum stuff, but I’m feeling knackered.

The weather is finally cooling down as we slide into Autumn. Our few deciduous trees are losing their leaves and the days are getting shorter. I was able to slob around in track pants today. Kate had a study day so we bought giant coffees and made chocolate chip cookies. Bliss!

Anyways to work… I’m slowly putting together a Koala/Aussie animals quilt. As always I’m not sure where this will end up… in the bin, a big quilt, little quilt, or a “what was I thinking it’s huge” quilt. I’ll just keep sewing and see what happens LOL.

Have you come across these printable HeatnBond fusible webbing sheets in your quilting travels? You pop them in your INKJET printer and print your applique shapes. No tracing! There is a catch of course, you need to separate the shapes.

heatnbondeazylite

That’s where I’m hoping to come in. I’ve been experimenting with the pug quilt – I’ve separated up the shapes and set them up so all you have to do is pop the right amount of sheets into the printer and then press go!

When I have the pug templates finalised I will add the downloadable file to the listing in the Etsy store. You will be able to use the traditional applique pattern to trace the templates by hand or use the EZ-Print templates to print the shapes directly on the EZ-print fusible webbing.

**If you’ve already purchased the pattern and would like a copy of the printable templates please message me.

bordered exampleI’ll be completely honest with you, I’ve never used these printable sheets – for no other reason than I haven’t had the time. I’ve had some great feedback about them though, and the lovelies in the Red Boot’s Gang are keen to give it a go. I’m also going to have a talk to my friends at Thermoweb to see if we can get some samples to giveaway.

If this is successful, I’ll add the printable templates to all new patterns, and then slowly work my way backwards through the existing patterns. Oversized shapes will still need to be traced by hand.

That’s it from me, Rem wants my seat. Yep, the weather is definitely getting cooler, he wants to snuggle on the lounge. He’s not content with sitting beside me, he wants the warm spot where my butt is, and he will sit and stare until I move. Lucky I’m a big softie and a complete pushover. Have a lovely Monday, toni xx

A Pug’s Life.

A Pug’s Life is in our Etsy store now.
Special introductory price of $5 for the PDF pattern and $11.50 for the printed pattern.

I told you it was crazy bright :o>

Tomorrow I will have caught up with work (from our month long internet outage) thank goodness. Thanks to everyone for your patience. It’s been a mammoth task catching up!

It’s done!

It seems like I took a long time getting here, but the pugs are done!

March, and now April have been full of false starts and dead ends and finishing the pug quilt is a huge thing. A step forward, out of the endless rut I’ve found myself in. I’ll get the pattern in the store tomorrow night.

In local news my daughter heads off to France in a few weeks time as part of her University studies. It’s a huge opportunity and I’m so proud of her. It took a lot of hard work to get accepted into the study course. Luckily she knows how to order coffee in French LOL.

I was going to take a week off and meet her in Amsterdam for a short holiday but the hole in the roof took care of that LOL. I’ll have to live vicariously through her LOL.

pugs 1On a side note – I’m sitting in my lounge room and baby spiders keep falling from the inset lights. Obviously there has been a hatching somewhere in the light fixture/roof cavity and the baby spiders are on the move. It’s not a big deal and it happens a couple of times a year, but seriously can they not land on me! It’s really creepy LOL.pug meets tulaAnyway, nite everyone. It’s 11.30pm, I’m starving hungry, and we didn’t get to sleep until 2am the past couple of mornings. Neighbours hey? You either love them or want to put them on a rocket to Mars. I didn’t realise I knew the words to so many Metallica songs! LOL xx

Friday on my mind.

Hi y’all,

What a crazy couple of weeks it’s been in the Alexander household. The roof and skylight have been repaired. The poor guy who fixed it had a brace on his leg, I don’t know how he was climbing up and down ladders, and scuttling all over our double-height roof (without a harness)!

You mustn’t think we live a life of woe, we absolutely don’t. I write about the crazy things that happen to us because otherwise this blog would be mundane. I could tell you that I spent seven hours today sitting on a computer doing paperwork and drawing diagrams, or I could tell you about the risotto I had stuck in my belly button (true story from tonight’s dinner). So please laugh with us, life is a crazy road trip full of laughter and tears.

My leg is healing nicely. Did you know Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world? I grew up in tropical North Queensland and spent a large part of my childhood on a beach or a boat. When I was a kid adults would plaster you with oil so you would get a sunburn/suntan; it was thought to be healthy. I remember my GP getting me to sit in the sun everyday to help combat teenage acne. Of course I’m paying the price for those years in the sun with inevitable skin cancers.

Remy-the-Lion is babysitting the pug quilt. He’s quite determined never to get off it. The lovely Fiona is very busy right now, but I’m in the quilting queue. If I can get a good piccy this weekend (without the quilting) I’ll get the pattern up early for you.

It’s been a week of paperwork and putting together wholesale orders. I don’t think I’ve been near the sewing machine – much to my distress. I have a list as long as my arm of quilts I want to make but time is my enemy. I need to go fabric shopping this weekend, my scrap bins are overflowing but I’ve run out of bigger pieces that I can use for background fabrics.

IMG_1082The sample sale has been postponed for a week or so, I do apologise for the hassle. I wasn’t expecting the week that was. I’ll be in touch with everyone who contacted me sometime in the next few days.

Etsy is having a big sale promotion this week and I’ve decided to join in. We are offering 20% off everything in store (except Henry). Pop on over and grab yourself a bargain or two.

I picked up three vintage wool blankets on Etsy this week. The price for new ones was horrendous, upwards of $250 each and the available colours were so blech. The three I bought are excellent brands, in perfect condition, and cost under $150 for the three. Bargain!

I’ll leave you tonight with this gorgeous quilt that Cherie H. made for Liz. It’s adapted from the Cuddle Bears pattern in the Happy Quilts book. Isn’t it absolutely stunning. I love this so much. Thanks Cherie and Liz for sharing it with us.

bears liz and cheriHave a wonderful weekend everyone, toni xx

Unpick that border!

Hi y’all,

I’ve been unpicking the border on the pug quilt today. The pieced border that I had originally planned looked awful. It’s all part of the job. However it meant that my measurements were now completely out of whack. I spent last night with a calculator, a pen, and a ream of paper trying to work it out.

pugslife

When I got up this morning I realised that all I had to do was add an extra 1/4in to one of the inner borders and all was fixed size-wise. Duh. Sometimes you can’t see the wood for the trees.

Today I’ve sewn 45 blocks for the new border and it is the happiest quilt I’ve made by far! This one’s a good one!

A couple of days ago I posted that I was going to sell some of my sample quilts. Thank you to everyone who messaged me. I’m sorry I haven’t replied to some (a lot) of you yet. I was completely taken by surprise at the response I received. To be honest I was unprepared for it and I’ve stuck my head in the sand a little.

I will make a list of names, in the order you have contacted me and when I price everything up I’ll message you.

Enjoy your weekend lovelies, I’m off to bed. It’s been a big week. toni xx
