A pig in mud.

Well hey everyone, how has your week been? Mine has been one great big jumble of weird work schedules, uni (college) exams, end of semester parties, visitors from the US, and the horrors of the house being re-wired. Add nutty neighbours to the list and you get the gist. I sat down to have lunch today and woke up two hours later with my sandwich stuck to my shirt LoL.

I worked like crazy today to get the final instalment of the This Little Piggy quilt done only to realise that I’m a week early. Ta Da! Surprise! ha ha ha. I’ve uploaded it to the website so you can download Month 10 (our final instalment) now.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us in our little piggy adventure. We will be running a new BOM next year starting in February – the theme will be announced early January.

The gnome quilt pattern is almost done. I would have had it uploaded last week but our nutty neighbour made trouble while I was trying to photograph it. I ended up drawing it out instead which took a couple of extra days. I’m planning on having it uploaded to the Etsy store tomorrow morning.

I can’t believe how quickly this year is disappearing. The university year is finished (thank goodness) and Kelly had her last exam at dawn o’clock this morning. Being the nice Mum that I am, I volunteered to drive her into campus this morning before breakfast – hence the unscheduled lunchtime nap LoL.

The weather has suddenly heated up and Dave the scrub turkey has been hit with a fresh surge of turkey hormones. His nest is now at least four metres wide by two high (4 1/2 yards x 2 1/2 yards) and what was left of our garden is now the plant icing on top. He is very, very lucky we consider him to be part of the family.

The water dragons are out in force and have started laying their eggs in what’s left of the garden. Dave has done them a favour, the soil is dug over and soft, and they don’t have to do much work LoL.

The warmer weather has brought all the wildlife out of Winter hiding. I can hear the flying foxes (bats) squeaking in the trees as I’m typing. They make a heck of a noise, quite loud, and it’s very distinguishable from the other wildlife. The mango tree is finally getting fruit and they are coming in to feast. I was driving home at dusk on Tuesday night when one swooped down towards the car and pooped on my windscreen. Bat poop is disgusting!!!

Best of all the birds are back. The cockatoos are demanding seed and the rainbow lorikeets are screeching in the palm trees. Aussie birds tend to be very, very noisy and screech a lot – a bit like our politicians but much, much nicer :o)

Anyway lovelies, have a fabulous weekend. I’ll pop in tomorrow and let you know when the gnome pattern is done. toni xx

The gnome quilt is almost done. A few more tweaks and it will be ready for photographing etc. Ughhh, photographs are the worst part of the whole pattern writing job description. It makes me sooo frustrated and cranky LoL.

I hope you have a lovely weekend everyone. We’re hoping for some rain tonight and tomorrow. It will be a great relief to fill the water tanks and have the gardens and surrounding bushland watered. It’s been so very dry (drought) this year (or two). Take care, toni xx

Clearance Sale! our Little Mermaid pins are 50% off this weekend in our Etsy store!

Happy quilts…

Hey lovely quilters, it’s Friday again. How has your week been? Did you get any sewing done? Or did you save it all for the weekend?

I’m finally getting back into the swing of sewing and designing again. It’s been a long time coming and there have been times over the past nine months where I feared I’d never get the urge to sew again. There were some very dark days when I nearly closed the business and gave up.

These little guys have been so much fun to play with. Very bright, very happy, and the perfect salve for a wounded soul.

Give me a week or two and the pattern will be ready for sale. I’m currently adding some frogs and working out a couple of overlap issues.

This week’s Friday Favourites are the Fishy Fishy Fishy, Fun at the North Pole, Flamingo Dance, and Farmhouse Daisies quilt patterns. You can find them in our Etsy and Web stores at our special Friday Faves price.

Don’t forget to download the ‘This Little Piggy” BOM blocks. We’re almost done! Where did the year go? Remember to enter our fantastic Thermoweb giveaway too.

I hope you have a great weekend, take care and be kind to each other. toni xx

The Gnomes in My Garden

Hello happy quilters, how has your week been? We’ve had some lovely Spring weather here in Brisbane and we even had our first storm of the season; it was absolutely fantastic to hear the rain on the roof.

The warm weather has brought the wildlife out of hibernation. There are loads of butterflies, native bees, and lizards. Our nutty neighbour has been chasing snakes all week, so I suppose they are awake too LoL. Dave the scrub turkey is still tending to, and increasing the size of his nest; we also had three blue tongue lizards come say hello.

The blue tongues have a real attitude problem. This guy was about 30cm (12in) long and was really cranky. He took a swipe at Martin, nipped Rem, and chased Kate. They open their mouths and hiss like crazy. They are super fast too.

My favourites though are the water dragons. They live in abundance in the creek behind our house. They climb the trees, sun themselves on our patio, and lay their eggs in the gardens. They crash through the bush making a heck of a noise and frequently scare the living daylights out of me when I nearly step on them. This photo was taken last year, he’s sitting on the branch of a tree a good seven metres from the ground.

I’ve been working on the templates for the gnome quilt (in between chasing lizards and neighbours) adjusting them here and there, getting them just right.

The first gnomes weren’t quite right. They were cute, but they didn’t fit in with Esmerelda and she is too sweet not to use.

I think I’ve got them right now, which means I can finally get cracking on finishing the quilt and pattern. So much of this job is trial and error, false starts and frustrations, followed by the pure joy of creating something that makes people happy.

Don’t forget to download the latest instalment in the piggy BOM. You can find the patterns by clicking on the “This Little Piggy” tab in the menu at the top of the page. Have a fun weekend everyone, I hope you get some time to work on something special. toni xx

Do the Monster Mash

Hey lovelies, how was your weekend? I hope you are safe from hurricanes and bush fires. We’ve had high winds and dust storms all weekend and we’ve lost power a couple of times. If tonight’s gale is anything to go by, it won’t be the last time we do. Unfortunately I put the candles away ‘for safe keeping’ last time I did a big clean up and I can’t find them anywhere LoL.

The next Piggy block is due this Friday. Have you caught up yet? Remember to enter the Thermoweb (Heat-n-Bond) giveaway by commenting and telling us the name of your fave Red Boots pattern.

The new quilt (pattern) in the Wild Things series will be available this week. If you own the Happy Quilts book you will be able to make a similar quilt using the pattern in the book. Monster Mash measures 56 1/2in x 56 1/2in and is easily adapted to fit a single bed.

Wow, that gust of wind shook the house! I’m going to hit publish on this post before the power goes out again. Take care of yourselves wherever you may live, stay safe, and be kind to each other. toni xx

Pink Piggy Farm

Hiya lovelies, the next instalment of our Thermoweb This Little Piggy BOM is ready for release tomorrow. Have you got your pink fabrics and HeatnBond ready?

Pink Piggy Farm is on it’s way too. I made this one up ages ago and haven’t got around to releasing it as a full pattern. It should be ready tomorrow too. xx

This Little Piggy #5

Hi y’all, how’s things with you guys today? It’s time for us to upload the next instalment in the “This Little Piggy” BOM.

You can download this month’s instructions (Month #5) as well as previous month’s instructions here. This month we’ve added our farmers to the quilt.

We’ve also put together a preview of the quilt (so far) for you. It should help you make a few colour choices and decisions. Please note that this is for illustration purposes only. The sun isn’t fused to the quilt yet and you shouldn’t sew the blocks together as yet.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to Karen T. who is the winner of this month’s Therm-o-Web giveaway. Enter this month’s giveaway by leaving a comment on this post telling me your favourite candy or snack food.

I’ve (just) worked out how to do a percentage off on the Red Boot’s website. You’ll have to use a coupon code though – if you enter this code at the checkout you’ll receive 20% off your order – FRIDAYFRENZY1 . You can download the Piggy patterns from here too, you’ll find them under free patterns.

You’ll be pleased to know (I hope) that I’m getting some sewing done. It’s been extraordinarily hard getting back to it and I have a massive backlist of quilts to make. I truly hope that the second half of the year will be more productive than the first.

I have a box of luscious flannels to play with and I feel like making a big, squishy bear quilt. Never fear the gnomes are still on the cutting table too.

Well that’s it from me, my brain has suddenly decided not to work *sigh* and I know not to push myself when it does this. Much love to all, toni xx

This Little Piggy…

went to market and made some new friends. Block #4 of the This Little Piggy BOM will be ready for download this coming Friday.

A big, heartfelt thank you to the lovelies at Thermoweb (the makers of my favourite fusible webbing HeatnBond Lite) for supporting our Piggy Block of the Month. We will be having a new giveaway for Month 4. Stay tuned!

This little black kitty is back on my sewing table. I can’t wait to see where he leads me. Have a lovely week everyone, toni xx
