It’s November!

Hello lovelies, it’s the 1st of November and I am, as ever, stunned at how fast the year is flying by. I thought I’d pop in and let you know where I’m at right now.

I’m almost finished the pattern for the gnome quilt. I was hoping it get it listed this weekend but it depends on photos (and it’s raining). I’ll let you know as soon as I’m done.

I’ve spent most of this year working with Terri, an editor, who is helping me upgrade the patterns with the view to eventually securing an American distributor. Just when we thought we were finished, the black background (PDF) printing issue cropped up and we were sent back to square one.

This Little Piggy Free Block-of-the-Month

Thankfully we’ve figured out the best way to overcome the problem in the majority of cases but it’s very time consuming. I want this finished before the end of the year so I can dedicate my time to actual designing, sewing, and pattern writing again. A huge thank you to the lovely people helping me out with test printing. xx

Windy Hill Farm Quilt Pattern

This month we will finish our ‘This Little Piggy’ block of the month quilt. I hope you’ve enjoyed sewing along with us. We will be running another free BOM next year and we’ll release details early in 2020.

Maria’s Land Down Under quilt. Thank you Maria xx

I’m hoping to release a couple of Christmas patterns in the next couple of weeks, but no promises at this stage. Anyway it’s heading for midnight, it’s raining a little, and I need my anti-wrinkle sleep (ha ha ha). Have a fabulous weekend, toni xx

Scrapelicious failure?

The feeling you get when the scrappy, happy border you’ve been planning looks great in real life but absolutely garbage in the photos.

I want this quilt to be so happy it makes your face hurt from smiling. I’ll add the third row/border and see what happens but I think I may have a date with a unpicker!

In the words of my Grandmother… damn and blast! xx

The gnome quilt is almost done. A few more tweaks and it will be ready for photographing etc. Ughhh, photographs are the worst part of the whole pattern writing job description. It makes me sooo frustrated and cranky LoL.

I hope you have a lovely weekend everyone. We’re hoping for some rain tonight and tomorrow. It will be a great relief to fill the water tanks and have the gardens and surrounding bushland watered. It’s been so very dry (drought) this year (or two). Take care, toni xx

The Gnomes in My Garden

Hello happy quilters, how has your week been? We’ve had some lovely Spring weather here in Brisbane and we even had our first storm of the season; it was absolutely fantastic to hear the rain on the roof.

The warm weather has brought the wildlife out of hibernation. There are loads of butterflies, native bees, and lizards. Our nutty neighbour has been chasing snakes all week, so I suppose they are awake too LoL. Dave the scrub turkey is still tending to, and increasing the size of his nest; we also had three blue tongue lizards come say hello.

The blue tongues have a real attitude problem. This guy was about 30cm (12in) long and was really cranky. He took a swipe at Martin, nipped Rem, and chased Kate. They open their mouths and hiss like crazy. They are super fast too.

My favourites though are the water dragons. They live in abundance in the creek behind our house. They climb the trees, sun themselves on our patio, and lay their eggs in the gardens. They crash through the bush making a heck of a noise and frequently scare the living daylights out of me when I nearly step on them. This photo was taken last year, he’s sitting on the branch of a tree a good seven metres from the ground.

I’ve been working on the templates for the gnome quilt (in between chasing lizards and neighbours) adjusting them here and there, getting them just right.

The first gnomes weren’t quite right. They were cute, but they didn’t fit in with Esmerelda and she is too sweet not to use.

I think I’ve got them right now, which means I can finally get cracking on finishing the quilt and pattern. So much of this job is trial and error, false starts and frustrations, followed by the pure joy of creating something that makes people happy.

Don’t forget to download the latest instalment in the piggy BOM. You can find the patterns by clicking on the “This Little Piggy” tab in the menu at the top of the page. Have a fun weekend everyone, I hope you get some time to work on something special. toni xx

Fairies in my Garden.

Hi lovely people, there are fairy princesses on my worktable tonight.

I’ve been talked into making a new quilt, based on the original Flower Fairies pattern.

The new one will be easier to fuse, as there won’t be so many overlapping pieces. I’ve doubled up the face fabric so the wings and hair don’t show through when it’s fused – when using this method always use featherlite or lite fusible webbing otherwise you’ll end up with a stiff applique shape.

Okay, back to work. I’ve got five quilts on the go and I need to finished them! I hope you had a great weekend, toni xx

The Land Down UnderIt’s my turn to make a free project for the lovelies at Therm O Web and I’m using their FANTASTIC HeatnBond Vinyl. OMG this stuff is amazing, so easy to use. I’m making pet mats to put their food dishes on.

I thought the iron on vinyl would be difficult to use and problematic in our humidity but it’s super easy and the finished result is amazing… look at that gloss. I’m about to put backing on this one and bind it. Next up, a dog themed pet mat. Thank you to the continued support of the lovelies at Therm O Web.

Have a lovely day everyone, toni xx

Look, no kitties!

Rem has been a total pain in the kitty butt this week. Every time I’ve sat down to sew or draw he’s plonked his furry toosh right in the middle of everything and has refused to move. IMG_0785I managed to get some sneaky work done tonight. He’s just found me though and looks so offended that I stitched without him LOL.IMG_0794I sew eyes on my critters the minute I stitch around the applique shapes. It’s a nuisance when they are being quilted but I need to do it. It gives them life and personality, and that’s important to me when I’m creating something.IMG_0796Are you doing anything special this weekend? Wrangling your own kitties? Have fun and happy quilting, toni xx
