Happy August.

Hi y’all, it’s August and everyone is talking about how close Christmas is. My head is firmly in the sand when it comes to Christmas, I’m just not ready to accept it’s the end of the year.

I haven’t quite got my head around the new Uni timetable yet so I’m not getting much work done. I’ve got the fabric ready for the cows and my sketchbook is full of ideas for a Summer Christmas quilt.

Some of my older quilts need updating using new fabrics, so I’m slowly working through them, making a block here and there when I find the time. The Rabbits at Hyde Park is currently in the queue for a fabric makeover.

I’ve put some patterns on special this week for you. Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Fun at the North Pole, Scrappy Alphabet, Scrappy Snowmen, Flamingo Dance, and Isaac the Robot are all $4 for the PDF version and $11.50 for the printed patterns. You can find my store here.

I’ve also done the draw for the July giveaway. Congratulations to Christine and Lynda. I’ll pop your prizes in the post as soon as I hear back from you. Thank you to everyone who participates and enters.

Saturday in the Land Down Under.

Good morning lovely people, it’s Saturday here in Oz and I’m about to make a bucket-o-coffee to kickstart my morning.

I’ve had a three day migraine this week so not much work has been done. To make up for my lack of social media posts I’ve put the Land Down Under quilt on super special this weekend. The PDF is $4 and the printed pattern is $11.50 including postage.

Gay has finished her quilt top using the bonus shapes, isn’t it gorgeous! If you want the bonus shapes please message me and I’ll send them separately. The Land Down Undergay thomas aussie quiltI’ve done a little work on a snowman quilt for Christmas. Never fear I will be making a Summer Christmas quilt too, I just felt like making snowmen this week.

Have a brilliant weekend guys, I hope you get some sewing time, toni xx

It’s $4 Friday!

Hiya lovelies, it’s $4 Friday! This week’s patterns are Santa’s House, Boot-n-SkootA Pug’s Life, and Scrappy Cats. The printed patterns are also on special for $11.50 which includes postage.

Happy Quilts is still ‘out of stock’ on Amazon dot com, but it’s still available on the Amazon Australia and Book Depository websites. I was about to link you to Amazon Australia but then I read the fine print and the Oz site ships from Book Depository anyway and it’s $5 dearer – how cheeky is that!

Hubby goes back to work on Monday so I should be able to knuckle down and get some sewing done. We’ve spent our holiday fixing the bathroom instead of having some much needed time away. We’re still showering in a giant plastic bag which isn’t optimum in Winter ha ha!

Enjoy your weekend everyone, the bathroom is finally free and the plastic bag awaits! toni xx

It’s not quite summer.. yet..

Re-binding Spud’s favourite Christmas quilt.

CANDY CHRISTMAS

It’s not quite Summer yet but it sure feels like it. We’ve had storms roll through two nights running. We drove into a hail storm this afternoon on the freeway, one minute it was sunny the next we were being pelted by medium sized hail.

Our friendly garden water dragons are having a ball though, the rain and high humidity has brought out the insects and they are feasting. They woke us up this morning crashing through the gardens. This is one of last year’s babies, he’s probably a good 12in (30cm) long. He got cranky with me taking his photo and took off up the macadamia nut tree LOL.

Back to School with Santa.

After two months of lazy mornings and minimal driving I’m back to being on the road for several hours a day. The inadequacies of the public transport system are never more apparent than when you are driving three siblings to three separate sets of classes each day. I’m absolutely knackered!

I’ve just got back from picking up No. 1 Daughter from the train station and have flopped on the lounge; I think I’m sitting on a knitting needle but at this point I don’t care LOL. There is yet another message on the machine from a real estate agent promising the sale of our house for a fantastical price, today’s dishes are piled in the sink, and I need to come up with something for dinner.

Instead I’m going to have nap with Santa and his crew. The three siblings can take control tonight!

Taking Stock. June.

Howdy folks, it’s the end of the Australian financial year and it’s time to take stock. I set myself the 30th June deadline to decide whether to keep Red Boots running or not.

After several weeks of angst I’ve decide to keep the business open for another year – health and finances permitting. When I’m tired I’ll take a rest, when I’m stressed I’ll step away for a while.

My main issue is exposure. I need you my lovely, lovely followers to share as much as you can. I know a lot of you already do that for me and I’m extremely grateful for your help. As an independent designer I don’t get the exposure so many of the bigger, affiliated guys do and I can’t afford the $1,000’s it takes to attend the craft fairs.

If you know about any market places or groups I can join and share my quilts please send me links to their sites. I’ve been invited to join several market places over the past year but some of them take up to 70% of your sale amounts and it’s not worth the work you put into it.

So what’s in store for Red Boots? A new website (hopefully) so I’m not so reliant on Etsy, a huge giveaway, a Red Boot Quilts group so you can share your quilts and ask advice, and lots more happy quilts.

Later this year I will be giving away the Wild Things (monster) quilt from the Happy Quilts book! Stay tuned for details.

clothesline-1

This week I’ve been working on an updated version of the Santa’s House quilt. I retired this quilt at the beginning of the year but I’ve had so many emails requesting its return, I thought I would give it a refresh and redesign. Santa’s House 2 will be available soon (if Remy-the-Lion gets his butt off it).

Xmas Santas House

On a personal front I’m still growing out my hair, my horrible neighbours are still my horrible neighbours, and property developers are still pestering us, and offering us too little, for the house (Australian property prices are some of the highest in the world). A lotto win is starting to look like the only way we will ever move out of here LOL.

I’m going to stop reading politics, avoid the news, get out in the sunshine and forget the thoroughly depressing woes of the world.

Here’s to another 12 months! xx
