Good morning lovely people, how are y’all?
It’s been a quiet but productive week for me, I’ve had a fantastic work experience student with me and we’ve tackled a couple of things that needed doing – like adding watermarks to images (thanks dodgy thieving fake websites), refreshing imagery, and sorting out ways to add a wholesale section to the website.
Sam will be popping in from time to time to help out more – yay! There is so much background work to do in this business and it’s been near impossible for me to keep up with it by myself.
I’m finally feeling more myself. My joints are still sore but not as bad as they were pre-Christmas. I have flare ups if I do too much but otherwise I think I’m on the mend. Mentally I’m feeling better, tired yes, but not so worn down by it all. Thanks Covid.
It’s time to tackle a new quilt – any suggestions?
If you are in Brisbane, please consider donating food and toiletry items to the Universities. A lot of students are really doing it hard right now. So many are skipping meals and classes (they can’t afford rising transport costs), are skipping their medications, and can’t afford sanitary products. Government allowances are below poverty levels and even with part-time work these kids can’t afford rent plus the basics. Some of the text books needed for Uni can cost several hundreds of dollars per book.
My daughter’s friend’s workload is currently 48 hours a week and that’s not including paid work. These are our future creators, doctors, engineers, musicians, artists etc. They deserve better from us. I’ve copied and pasted an email from the QUT Student Guild below outlining what they need. You can also contact them via email here.
Contact me if you’d like to donate grocery or toilet items but you can’t get to the University. I’m there all the time and I can deliver for you. Any help is greatly appreciated. QUT is feeding 1000 students and UQ is feeding 2000. The need is so great they’ve had to ration supplies. Thank you to anyone who can help.
Hi Toni, thank you for your kind email.
Your generosity is greatly appreciated, and it will make a difference in the lives of students in need. We accept all kinds of donations, including vouchers, non-perishable food items (canned items, noodles, pasta, rice, spreads, cereals) & toiletries. We are grateful for any support that you can provide.
We are currently working on a long-term solution for donation drop off however, at this stage please drop off to our Guild Office at Kelvin Grove, C Block Level 2.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out. Thank you again for your kind contribution.
I hope y’all have a lovely weekend. I’m going to stare at my fabric stash and my to-do list of quilts I want to make and see what leaps out at me! Take care, love to all, toni xx
Our education system is a disgrace on so many levels. A wealthy country like ours can do better.
I don’t understand this country anymore. We’ve become judgemental and greedy. So much malice is aimed towards students and I don’t know why. I blame Murdoch media and the poisonous nonsense it puts in print. Where is our empathy? These young adults are going without food, medications and basic sanitary needs. These people are our FUTURE for goodness sake. xx
